How we treat

First we find out. Then we fix.

Physiotherapy done well is a sequence: diagnose, settle, rebuild, prove it. Here's how that plays out from your first appointment at either of our Sunshine Coast clinics.

Visit one

The assessment

Plan for around 40 minutes. We start with the story: what happened, when it hurts, what it's stopping you from doing, what you've tried. Then we test. Range of movement, strength against resistance, joint and nerve checks, and the specific provocation tests that separate one diagnosis from its lookalikes.

You'll finish the visit with three things: a diagnosis in plain language, a realistic timeframe, and the first steps of a plan. Treatment usually starts the same day.

The honest bit

Sometimes the answer is "not physio"

A small share of first visits end with a different recommendation: a scan that needs to happen first, a GP review, or a presentation that belongs with our chiropractors instead. Finding that out at visit one is a good outcome. It costs you one appointment instead of six.

The reverse happens too. Chiropractic patients get walked down the hall to us when their problem turns out to need loading and rehab. One clinic, both toolkits.

Settle

Hands-on treatment

When pain is the roadblock, hands-on work clears it. Joint mobilisation to restore movement, massage and soft-tissue techniques for guarded muscles, and dry needling where a trigger point is driving the pattern. We use these because they work in the short term, and we're upfront that the short term is their job.

Passive treatment on its own keeps you comfortable and stuck. Ours is always paired with the active work below.

In the toolkit

  • Joint mobilisation and manual therapy
  • Sports and remedial massage techniques
  • Dry needling (and an honest chat about what it can and can't do)
  • Taping for sport and for unloading irritated tissue
  • Clear guidance on heat, ice, braces and the gadget aisle
Rebuild

Exercise-led rehab, with numbers

Tissue heals to the level you load it. That's why every meaningful recovery runs through progressive exercise: calf raises that add weight week on week, a shoulder program that graduates from bands to bells, running that returns in measured doses rather than one hopeful Saturday.

We track the numbers with you: single-leg hop distance, pain-free range, load lifted. When the numbers meet the targets we set at the start, you're not "probably right". You're demonstrably right.

Finish

Discharge is the goal

A good physiotherapy episode ends. The plan we set at visit one includes what "done" looks like, and reviews check progress against it honestly. If you're tracking ahead, appointments space out and the program moves home. If you've plateaued, we change the plan rather than repeating it.

Plenty of our patients come back years later with a new problem. That's the relationship we're after: the physio you return to, not the one you can't leave.

Ready for visit one?

Book online at either clinic. Bring your scans if you have them, wear something you can move in, and we'll take it from there.
